The sculpture that I create uses steel strips, gas welded together to create the image I want to purvey. In the figurative work, I try to take a mood or emotion that I am feeling, or that I observe and position the body to express that particular feeling. In recent works the facial expression has become another vehicle to heighten the expression. I usually deal with subjects of internal conflicts, loneliness, and relationships—pretty much everyday emotional occurrences. It is a labor intensive process that requires the shaping and welding of each individual strip of steel. It only allows me to produce one unique sculpture every two months. The finish is the result of a special process that allows the sculpture to be patinaed and enables it to hold up to hostile environments. My recent conceptual work has been dealing with a variety of subjects that I come across and fabricate in my own way. I like having subtle movement and viewer participation. The work is always an interpretation of an observance or a philosophy that is fabricated to make a suggestion without being too direct.
